Friday Homeschool-Art & History

IMG_7829Masters in the Morning Art Classes

We have put together a fantastic program for homeschoolers that is educational, creative and wicked fun!  Our program combines art history and design elements with art projects inspired by master artists. Sessions are 10 weeks long and cover a variety of mediums such as painting, sketching, clay, collage, fiber arts, printing, and sculpting to name a few!  In Masters in the Morning, students will learn new techniques and gain an artful eye that will help them better express themselves individually.

We use quality materials, and the classes are taught by professional artists and teachers.  We value the process of making art rather than focusing on the product,  however our students are producing amazing pieces of art!

2016 Fall Session: The Elements of Art
keithharring

September 9-November 18th, 10 classes
Fridays, 9:oo-11:30am
Target Age: 7-13yrs
Tuition: $300 includes all materials
Min 8 students, Max 15 students

We’re kicking off this school year with projects that introduce students to design elements such as color theory, line, shape, texture, pattern, movement, repetition and rhythm. Our morning starts with a visual presentation of the artist or style of the week, followed by the “art part” where students will get to take this knowledge and apply it. We have lots of fun projects this session including:

  • Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers on canvas w/ impasto
  • Hokusai’s Great Wave of Kanazawa
  • Pop Art: Moving with Keith Haring

Parent NoteThis is a drop-off class. We start at 9am and ask that parents and younger siblings are not in our art studio space after that time. We have wifi and you are welcome to stay on premise and utilize one of the many quiet spaces in the building. We will discourage students from visiting  parents during class unless its absolutely necessary. We work to build a comfortable space where students can thrive artistically. We ask that all students are respectful of others and instructors.

*Students are not allowed devices of any kind during class, lunch or breaks. Leave them at home or in the car for the day please!

UPDATE: There is currently a waitlist for Fall Classes. Please apply if you’d like to added to the waitlist. You never know what will open up!

Friday Afternoon Homeschool History

IMG_7112Stay the whole day on Friday and join our history class!  You’ll  get the added bonus of lunch and recess at Grenville Park. This fall we start Story of the World: Book 2 The Middle Ages. Students will do map work or coloring pages while listening to the story, then participate in group projects, activities and discussions. We encourage students to do the optional home assignments and present them each week. The curriculum is considered secular and we deliver it in an unbiased fashion. Our group consists of different types of families, with different religious or non-religious beliefs. Being respectful is an absolute must!

slowcooker   Lunch and Snacks

Last year students enjoyed sharing lunch and snack together.  We will be continuing with this option.  Lunch is vegan, gluten free, as well as,  nut and dairy free.  This has accommodated most of our dietary needs.  Shared lunch and snacks are alway optional.  You can bring your own if you wish.

If you’d like to participate in the shared lunch, you will bring snack and lunch for the whole group one time during the 10 weeks. We supply the crock pot, rice cooker,  and a recipe if needed!

End of the Day Enrichment Activities

Last session music class was offered upstairs with Ricardo in his Ecology of Sound studio from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  This session we are trying to arrange a new series of classes.  We are currently reaching out to instructors and hope to inform families of the classes to be offered during the first 10 weeks.  If you know any instructors with interesting skills, please contact Nicole or Marie.  Some ideas are theatre, music (voice or instrumental), and cooking.   Other areas are open to discussion.

More to come….

We have put together a fantastic program for homeschoolers that is educational, creative and really fun!  Each week students will experience the styles and techniques of one of the Great Masters, from Michelangelo to Haring, from the Renaissance to the Present! We start with a visual presentation of the artist or the week then move into the “art part” where students create art inspired by the artist we are studying.

Sessions are 4 weeks long, and cover a variety of mediums such as painting, sketching, digital art, clay (we have a kiln), collage, fiber arts, printing (we have a press) and sculpting to name a few!  In Masters in the Morning, students will learn new techniques and tools that will help them better express themselves individually.

We use high quality materials, and the classes are taught by professional artists and teachers.  We value the process of making art rather than focusing on the product, however our students are producing some pretty amazing pieces of art!
